Everything you need to know about preparing for and caring for your new PMU.

Eligibility Requirements

Check that you're a good candidate for permanent makeup—ensure safe and successful results.

Requires a Waiting Period

For your safety, the following require a waiting period before you can receive PMU at Modern Cosmetics:​

  • Anti-aging creams or other chemical exfoliants – 2-4 weeks

  • Accutane or acne medications – at least 1 year  

  • Facelift/Eyelid surgery/Brow lift – 6-8 months

  • Chemotherapy or radiation – 4-6 months 

  • Fertility treatments/medications – four months 

  • Antibiotics/Antiviral medicines – one month

  • Prednisone/steroid medication – one month

  • Blood thinners or fish/shark oil – one month

  • Brow/lash growth serum/castor oil – one month

  • Chemical peel, micro-needling, laser treatment – 4-6 weeks

  • Retin-A/retinoids – one month

  • Tanning (artificial bed or outdoor) – at least 2-4 weeks (preferably one month)

  • Botox or other injectables – 2-4 weeks   

  • Brow tinting / brow waxing – two weeks

  • Vaccine – one week

Requires Medical Clearance

The following require a waiting medical clearance from your provider before you can receive PMU at Modern Cosmetics:​

  • Cancer

  • Epilepsy

  • Heart Disease

  • Hemophilia

  • Hugh Blood Pressure

Ineligible Candidates

Unfortunately, due to safety concerns, the following conditions disqualify you as a candidate:​

  • Under 18 years of age

  • Currently pregnant/breastfeeding

  • Heart disease, mitral valve prolapse (MVP), or a pacemaker

  • Hepatitis A, B, or C

  • History of keloid scarring

  • Organ transplant anti-rejection medications

Results May Vary

The hair stroke techniques do not work on everyone.

Clients with the following conditions are advised that results may vary:​

  • Alopecia – due to changes in the skin and follicles, not all types of Alopecia clients are candidates

  • Trichotillomania – due to scar tissue, the color will not retain well and may blur

  • Mature, thin, or vascular skin – we do not recommend the hair-stroke technique for these clients

  • *Thyroid issues or Graves’ disease – medications will cause improper retention of pigment. 

  • *Large pores or oily skin – we do not recommend the hair-stroke technique for these clients. .

  • *Frequently Tan – excessive sun exposure or tanning bed use, before or after, will cause premature fading and discoloration

    *A third session may be required at an additional charge.
